This summer a pop-up cafe inspired by Malibu Barbie is coming to New York City and Chicago! If I have the opportunity to get a nice long layover in one of these cities, I certainly would like to go! The description is enticing to this former pink-car-driving-blonde. This sound like a fun and cute reason to get “dolled up”, if I ever heard of one. You can read all about it here and make reservations if you wish.
As soon as you step into our trendy cafe, you’ll be transported to 1970s Malibu California with a sea of poptimistic Barbie colors, laid-back beachy motifs, and lots of retro glam. Soak up the Cali vibes as you explore the immersive space and photo ops inspired by Malibu Barbie, including an iconic life-size Barbie Box, made for snapping photos with your best pose. Our menu, by Chef Becky Brown (Master Chef Finalist), was created with all tastes and preferences in mind, and features a delicious array of classics with a unique Barbie-inspired twist.
-Malibu Barbie Cafe Website
I never had a Malibu Barbie, but when I think of the Malibu Barbie look I think of the same color palettes and motifs as I do when I think of a Barbie I did have, and that is Totally Hair Barbie. So between these two I have come up with an array of looks to inspire what I would want to wear to the Malibu Barbie Cafe.
Links below correspond to numbered items
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 – My favorite of this batch is the Trina Turk dress (#1). The entire website is full of bright happy paisley prints like this and like #2. The happy pink, teal, purple color palette reminded me so much of our inspired Barbie look. The #6 Shoes by Betsey Johnson I did end up buying for this summer and I am in love with them.
9 | 10 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 14 | 15 | 16 | 17 – In this group I could see wearing #14 or # 17 with the colorful purse #12 and cute pink shoes. I like the windbreaker suit #15 because it reminds me of the 1990s, and the tee would be a very easy look for someone. Dress #13 is super cute and I would want to belt it.
18 | 19 | 20 – Here are some honorable mentions. This Malibu Barbie towel would not make sense for the cafe, but it is super cute and I love the print. The sewing pattern from the 1970’s represents what I would probably like to do if I was for sure attending the pop-up cafe, and that is to sew a look for the occasion. #20 is in regards to the fact Riley Blake Fabrics has a collection of Malibu Barbie fabrics I have discovered they are difficult to find, but I am thinking if I did I would like to use the fabric to sew a cute top or dress.
I love this skirt and top set from Boston Proper.
Make Up tips I found on Youtube
I am drawn to the Barbie pink clothing and the fun memories I have of Barbie, but having said that I do not have interest in the new movie that is coming out, and I don’t like the newer Barbie Dolls which are not extreme in their proportions like the older Barbies. I am just old fashioned and like the more unattainable shaped ones because I admired that they were so outrageous and over the top. Do you plan to go to one of these pop up cafes? I will let you know if I end up going!
