This year I decided to make my husband a special jacket to wear for The Dressmaker’s Ball. This idea started last November when we were perusing the gift shop at The V&A museum, and Joe saw a coat on a mannequin he was drawn to.

Here are those pictures I took of the paisley coat he liked, as well as one next to it that he liked the colors of.

I found a good sewing pattern to use, Vogue 2141

Then I went online to Mood Fabrics I I purchased “Gem Paisley Twill”, and “Liz Claiborne Cloudburst and Navy Abstract Printed Cotton Twill”. I think these two are a nice reflection unto the two jackets he liked at V&A, and they will create an eccentric and artistic piece for him to wear to not just the Dressmaker’s Ball, but to other events as well.

Below are the actual fabrics, and I really like the idea of mixing these two prints.

The Reveal

I think it turned out pretty true to what I had hoped! I can’t say I’m very good at lining but I got it to work. I am happy that he has several occasions to wear this to: The Dressmaker’s Ball, Abbey Road at Sea, and a Vanilla Fudge concert.
