I am always on the quest to not spend much money while being on reserve as a flight attendant. I mentioned in my first meal idea in this series, how the first year or so, being on reserve, it is a time when money is tight. If you are not flying much, you are not making much money. So in the meantime, my goal is to eat budget -minded, but filling meals. I need food I can make in a big batch and freeze, so that when I get called out for trips, I can easily pack the containers in my crew cooler.
This meal involves the following ingredients:
Aldi Turkey Kielbasa $2.35
Aldi New Orleans Rice $1.25
Aldi Tomato Sauce $0.25
Aldi Frozen Broccoli Florets $0.89
1 onion & 1 green pepper – I do not recall exactly, but I will say the total was $1
So the total ingredients cost approx $5.74 I was able to get 4 full size meals out of this, so the cost per meal is $1.44
Basically, cook the rice, cut up the onion, pepper, and kielbasa, and add all of the ingredients together in a large skillet. It is that easy! Dish the food evenly into glass containers, and they will be ready when you need them, to heat up on a hot logic mini in your hotel room, in the airport, or maybe just in your crash pad if you do not get called out for a trip.
