Purple Minerva Coat, Butterick B6720, & Tweed Hat B6308

This coat is one of my favorite makes ever! I absolutely love how it turned out, and it is warm. I also have such a good memory of receiving the gift card to Minerva Fabrics , which I won at Milan Frocktails.

I used Minerva’s Core Range Boucle Textured Coating Fabric in purple, and it was very easy fabric to work with. For the lining I used some satin which was purchased at the Joann Fabrics Liquidation Sale. I sewed on some pre-constructed. fur cuffs and a collar to give this coat the glamour I had in mind. I think they did the job in making the coat a bit “extra”.

Every coat needs a matching hat! I had purchased this purple tweed over 10 years ago at a thrift shop, it was a remnant. The hat is view J from a really awesome sewing pattern, Butterick 6308. The pattern includes “12 terrific hats”. The beret hat was supposed to have a band but it was starting to look like something worn by a member of the Signoria on the show Medici. While the hat is still a little more voluminous that I might normally go for, I think it’s pretty darn fabulous when paired with the coat.

The buttons which I sewed on the pockets for decoration are metal and vintage. One button was missing a shank however! My husband was so kind to help me figure out a solution. Basically I founf a teeny tiny button, he removed the broken shank with a tool, and he super glued the tiny button in place. It worked out great!
