About a week ago, I had the pleasure of a long, unexpected layover in NYC. I wrote a post about my visit to Mood Fabrics of “Project Runway” fame, and how I shopped for the perfect boiled wool, and leopard print fabric for a future sewing project.
The plan is to sew myself a red and leopard skirt suit to wear to an event which is part of the Dressmaker’s Ball festivities. I also plan to wear it aboard the Cunard Queen Elizabeth this fall.
The pattern I fell in love with (1960’s Simplicity 3588) was purchased from one of my favorite antique shops in the country, Vint’illage in Bowling Green, Ohio. As of writing, I have currently cut out my muslin to make a mock up of the skirt suit. I am tying to become a better seamstress, and lately that has meant making a practice mock-up in inexpensive muslin fabric, prior to cutting into my good fabric. The finished suit will be featured in a future post of course. But today I want to share with you my finished pillbox hat which will match the suit!
I used my leopard print fabric from Mood Fabrics, and a lovely fuchsia Shantung satin for the lining.
