Liberty of London is one of my favorite shopping attractions in London due to it’s 145 year history tied to fabrics. As a seamstress and trained textile print artist, I am drawn to the wide array of fabric selections inside this stunning Tudor revival department store. On my recent trip to London I enjoyed strolling the 6 floors of stunning merchandise. My mission was to buy 1 meter of a fabric I loved, to serve as my souvenir of London. I looked forward to bringing the fabric back home to the states, and creating a top out of it.
Here is the fabric I chose to purchase, which is a classic Liberty style, Art Nouveau design. It is a Tana Lawn Cotton, which is a very smooth feeling, fine fabric that Liberty is proud of. It is almost silk-like in the way it feels. You can read more about the history of Liberty Fabrics here. 1 meter runs $32 USD, which is why I limited myself to only 1 meter.
Once I was home, I decided on Simplicity 8645, view B. This is an elegant 1950’s vintage halter top. This was a pretty easy sewing pattern to use. I decided to install a center back zipper instead of the buttons. I really like how the project turned out. It’s an especially nice souvenir, as buying a ready-made top at Liberty would run about $135 USD.
