I enjoy sewing Simplicity pattern 1426, which is a vintage crop top reproduction pattern. This is the same pattern I used for my Miss Rockabillaque outfit, and I also made a quick crop top using this pattern when I had some left over red and white gingham.
After a few visits to Joanne Fabrics, I kept admiring the “Vintage Simplicity sewing pattern” themed fabrics. As an ardent lover of anything vintage, fashion illustrations, and sewing, this fabric struck a chord with me. But it is also a rather “busy” pattern, and too much of a novelty print for most of the garments I would want to make. I kept putting the bolt back on the rack because I could not think of something I wanted to make out of it. Then I suddenly had the idea to make a little fun crop top out of it using Simplicity 1426 view C . After all, a crop top itself is not that serious, nor is this fabric!
One of the other nice things about this pattern is that it does not take too many yards of material, so it is a cost effective project. I used 7/8ths of the print, 1/2 yard of lining, and I had some interfacing at home already. I also picked out 2 buttons that I thought would look cute with it in the back.
I took two days to sew this top, and enjoyed every moment of it. Isn’t it fun to see a sewing project come together as you work on it? I like how it turned out! It can be worn two ways; like a halter or crossed in front.
I could also see in the future extending the waistline down and making it into the bodice for a dress. Do you have any sewing patterns you like making more than once? The shorts that I am wearing here are also homemade from a vintage sewing pattern, and you can read that post here.
