I have a unique opportunity to attend a special event in Liverpool, England. This event is a celebration with Cunard for 185 years of Glamour at Sea. I am honored to have my portrait chosen for the exhibit! In the photo, I am wearing a dress I made for a 1920’s gala night aboard a Transatlantic crossing a few years ago. I am fond of this photo, taken with a self timer and tripod, because it looks like it really could be from the past. As you know, I embrace vintage style regularly, and I’m a self professed “sewing glambassador”, so to have a dress I sewed for a vintage fashion theme, be featured for our beloved Cunard’s celebration, it is an ultimate moment!

The above pattern, M8037, is the sewing pattern I used to make the blue dress in the Cunard photo.
Naturally, to travel to Liverpool, England for the opening of the photo exhibit, I wanted to make a dress to wear. I made Butterick 7943 once before, for my 2023 Dressmaker’s Ball dress. I felt very good in that style of dress, so I thought it would be the perfect style to make again but in a different fabric. This time I used a lovely lime green linen blend. To tone it down for day wear, I opted for a woven belt I owned, instead of a cummerbund like last time.

The dress may or may not have been chosen in the lime green because of the Betsey Johnson shoes I fell in love with this season!

The shoes also happened to coordinate exceptionally well with the purse I made for Dressmaker’s Ball 2023. Not only do the colors look cohesive together, the “glamorous sewing pattern illustration” motif of the bag suits the occasion!
As a final touch, I sought high and wide for the perfect brooch to wear on my shoulder. I wanted it to tie in with the “Glamour of the Seas” theme, but not as obvious as being a nautical anchor or something like that. I scored through etsy, ebay, thrift stores, etc. I finally came upon a beautiful Anne Klein brooch.
