As the nation is slowly loosening closure restrictions on cities and businesses during Covid-19, Joe and I decided to take a road trip up North from Fort Myers, and support small businesses along the way. The first city on our route, happened to be the oldest city in the nation, St. Augustine, Florida. Neither Joe nor I had visited this beautiful city previously, and we commented how authentic the architecture felt because of it’s history of over 450 years. The buildings, bridges, and monuments had a colorful Spanish influence, and the beach-y easy going culture was fun and welcoming.
While not many stores or restaurants had re-opened during the time we were visiting, we did get to have our first restaurant meal in months (pizza) since the lock down began. We are quite cautious about the corona virus, so it was a priority to keep safe, to be able to socially distance ourselves, and to feel like cleanliness and sanitation standards were given top priority. We could not have felt safer at the places we dined at in St. Augustine. It was refreshing to see how mindful businesses were being about reopening, and I am thankful to see that slowly customers were returning, while also being careful. The public in general were all very conscious about maintaining social distance in St. Augustine.
The most memorable adventure however, was renting a scooter and scooting all over the city for hours. I think it was the best investment we could have made, in order to cover the most ground, and take in the beautiful city.
