Styling the Shorts I Made – 6 Outfits

In a recent blog post, I wrote about my quest for the perfect high waist, vintage inspired shorts. I ultimately ended up sewing 2 pairs for myself from a 1978 sewing pattern, McCall’s 6061. I used some pretty pink cotton, and white denim to make the two pairs of shorts. As promised, now I will share with you a few ways I plan to style my new sewing project into outfits.

Not everyone will be interested in sewing their own shorts, so below I have gathered a few similar alternatives at various price points.

Pink Shorts Outfit #1

I found this Tommy Hilfiger pink striped blouse at TJ Maxx , after I bought the pink fabric for the shorts, but before sewing them, and it was the outfit I was most excited about wearing. This is a great look for when you do not want to be overdressed for a casual affair, yet you still want to be looking put together and polished.

Pink Shorts Outfit #2

This look is rather 1970’s to me. I paired the shorts with candy colored striped tank top.

Pink Shorts Outfit #3

Similar to the previous look, this time I paired the shorts with a plain white tank top. I like the simplicity of this look.

White Shorts Outfit #1

Here is that same white tank top with the white shorts, resulting in a monochromatic look.

White Shorts Outfit #2

To me leopard print is often a neutral. I got this top secondhand at Goodwill, and tailored it to fit better.

White Shorts Outfit #3

This is the most dressed up look of the outfits. I paired the shorts with this black off shoulder top with voluminous sleeves, and a wide brimmed black hat.
