I always love visiting my parents and my brother in my hometown, Bowling Green, Ohio. When I was there this past week, my mom heard about an invitation we could not refuse. In a nearby town, the Hirzel family of farmers, invited the community to feel free to stop by their expansive sunflower fields, and take photos at no charge.
What a wonderful kind gesture that was! I think everyone could use some cheering up during this covid-19 season of concern. This is one easy way to stay distanced from people but still have fun.
The small Northwest Ohio town of Pemberville, is where these sunflower fields bloom, in a sea of yellow. These sunflowers were planted June 3rd, about 2 months ago, and they will eventually be harvested and pressed for organic sunflower oil.
There were probably about 50 cars or more parked to visit when we were there. You could see by all the smiling faces how much joy it brought to so many people. My dad who is in a wheelchair, just loved getting to ride out to the country in the convertible and see the flowers.
If you would like to visit, the address to plug into your GPS is 2422 Ohio Route 105, Pemberville.
Below is a map of the areas where you can view several fields. (Source : BG Independent News)
