In March of 2025 my husband and I took a ride on The Magical Mystery in Liverpool! Tony, the tour guide, told us about Abbey Road on the River when he discovered we were from Indiana! We were delighted to find out that such an epic Beatles Fan event was only 2 hours from us in Indianapolis. We bought tickets as soon as they went on sale for 2026.

So come a year later, we were approaching the event finally, and I had an idea to make a very special outfit to wear to the music festival. My inspiration was the iconic Beatles Fan Girl dresses as seen below.

I also like this handmade version! Mine would be a little bit of both!
I had left over fabric from ironically enough, the dress I had worn in Liverpool to the Cunard Glamour of the Seas Exhibit. Just enough scrap to make vintage Simplicity 8682, the perfect 1960’s shift dress sewing pattern to achieve the look! Once I sewed the darts, I found some reference pictures of the Beatles to draw from. I tried my best to draw them directly on the dress with permanent fabric markers. This left virtually no room for error! I am not totally happy with each of my Beatles drawings because of this, however I think I nailed it on John.
I decided to theme it around the Beatles song “Good day Sunshine”. I wrote the lyrics on the back of the dress and added a drawing of Pattie Boyd for good measure.

The Abbey Road on the River Music Festival exceeded our expectations! The musicians were vetted for excellence to be a part of this, and the entire event was organized and executed with great attention to detail. The headliner act for Saturday when we attended was Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits, and that was such a fun performance. The event is mostly Beatles, but there were other 1960’s music performances. One I enjoyed was the entire album of the Beach Boys Pet Sounds performed live. You can learn more about this festival in Jeffersonville, Indiana (near Louisville) right here. Any Beatles fan will love it!!
