A Visit to Roy’s Material World & Autumn Sewing Plans

Back in March 2026, we attended the Stitch Festival and I was so delighted to see our friend Roy’s merchandise booth there, as he is a supporter of the Dressmaker’s Ball in Leicester, England where his retail store is. At the time, I bought some fabrics and told him I would be wearing it in October when I attend his cocktail party for the ball. So fast forward, this past weekend was the day, and here I am wearing the skirt I made in the store, holding up one of the bolts it’s made from. M8150 is the sewing pattern I used, and you can see the full blog post about it here.

It was so nice to see Roy and to stock up on some fabrics for Autumn sewing projects.

So first, the red corduroy, which has a fine wale, I will be making Simplicity 9444, from the year 1980 a scoop neck dress with an elasticized waist, and long sleeves, elasticized wrists. I will be styling it with a belt I own, and boots! I think it will be versitile all fall and winter. It’s a very basic, simple dress, and sometimes I skip sewing basics like this, which is all the more reason I should make it for my wardrobe.

This stretch velvet with roses is absolutelty spot on when it comes to my personal style! I am always a sucker for vintage, feminine rose motifs! I was able to puchase the last of what Roy had in the store, and it looks like this McCalls pattern will be  a perfect sewing pattern to create a beautiful long sleeved evening gown. I have made this dress twice before, and I like it so much I have no problem making it yet again. I will be wearing this on the Cunard Queen Mary 2 ocenliner, and likely to a Chirstmas party.

This blue chambray with white flowers will look nice as one of these V8321 blouses with lace trim!

The pink toile will become an M5050 blouse, likely view C which I have made before and love. However I may add an extra elastic channel at the waist this time.

Here is the same fabric in turquoise which I boight from Roy at the Stitch festival. It made such a lovely dress and headband.

The vintage sewing pattern lady novelty motif fabric is a mystery, what should I make? I’m not sure! I will eventually come up with something. Additionally I bought this pretty brown satiny embroidered fabric at a vintage store in Leiceter.
